How Fear Holds Us Back From Meeting New People

And what you should do about it.

There are a variety of reasons why we seek new people in our lives.

  • We move to a new place and don’t know anyone.
  • We come to realize the friends we currently have aren’t serving us well.
  • We are happy with our friends but want to make new friends.

Regardless of the reason, we commit to meeting new people.

Once this commitment has been made, we brainstorm activities where we could meet these people.

Workout classes, church services, book clubs, Meetup events, volunteering meetings, the list goes on and on.

We commit to doing these things but an invisible force holds us back.

The fear of being seen alone.

The fear of appearing a loner can trump the desire of meeting new people.

The thought of being seen alone attending an event scares people.

It’s so scary the only way we convince ourselves we can attend is by bringing along someone we know.
